On June 19th, environmental agencies, New York State officials, the larger public, and more gathered in the heart of Times Square to witness the destruction of one ton of elephant ivory. The goal: to combat wildlife trafficking and raise awareness for the plight of the endangered wild elephant. Every fifteen minutes, an elephant is killed for its ivory resulting in the loss of 35,000 elephants annually and feeding a multi-billion dollar illegal black market trade. Governments around the world are conducting the Ivory Crush to send a clear message against these criminal acts.
